The book I’m presenting today is “Chef’s Story, 27 Chefs Talk About What Got Them into the Kitchen”. It was co-edited by Dorothy Hamilton and Patric Kuh. I had come to know the amazing Dorothy Hamilton while helping her and others during a period of time re-organizing The James Beard Foundation. Dorothy was the interim President and there could not have been a better one for the task. Patric Kuh did an extensive interview with me a few years prior. Perhaps those are part of the reasons I was selected to join. Happily my ‘headshot’ appears between my friends Charlie Trotter and Daniel Boulud on the cover. Others featured include Jacques Pépin, Tom Colicchio and Susan Goin.
The book was doing in conjunction with the public television series by the same name. It was published by Ecco Press, one of the premier publishers in the nation.
There is a common bond of symmetry in the background stories of the majority of the chefs featured in it. For the most part they tell of oftentimes humble backgrounds and uncertain expectations for what life might have to offer. But the seeds of an early love of food are a very common bond between us. Available online and at fine new and used book stores.
